Very pleased with my match with Edge at Wrestlemania. Still recovering from the spear off the table though… BONK

After RAW in Phoenix, Edge vs. Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Title took place. Jericho had his ribs taped up and cut a promo on Shawn Michaels. Jericho ended up poking the referee in the eyes to get a DQ in the match.

Edge eventually hit a spear on Jericho and left. Jericho got back up and complained more which brought out Triple H. He hit a Pedigree on Jericho and then did Sweet Chin Music with some comedy in it. Triple H posed on the stage like HBK and left to end the show.

World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho and Edge brought everything to their very personal war in front of more than 72,000 members of the WWE Universe inside the University of Phoenix Stadium. And finally – after weeks of hostile posturing – it was Jericho who reigned supreme and walked away with his World Title.

After the match, an enraged Ultimate Opportunist brutally Speared Jericho from atop the announce table and through the ringside barricade.

Just two days before WrestleMania unleashes itself on the WWE Universe from Phoenix, The Rated-R Superstar answered World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho’s proclamation of victory with an assault that was truly on the Edge.

Not only did Chris Jericho declare that he would retain his World Title against Edge at WrestleMania, but he also promised to end his No. 1 Contender’s career, capitalizing on his adversary’s “inferior DNA” to destroy his Achilles tendon. The Rated-R Superstar answered back with an explosive attack, nearly hitting another Spear on the six-time World Champion before Jericho made his quick retreat.

Will The Ultimate Opportunist walk out of the Grandest Stage of Them All with the World Championship once again around his waist? Or will “the best in the world at what he does” arrange it so he doesn’t walk out at all?

Answer: None of them have won as many World Championships in their long, illustrious careers as Edge has.

For those who aren’t keeping score at home, Edge has nine World Championship reigns.

Nine.

In fact, only three men have more World Title reigns than Edge: Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, and Triple H.

Now, I know what you’re thinking, “Gordon, those three guys aren’t Canadian. So, why isn’t Edge the greatest Canadian wrestler of the modern era?”

Well, I’ll tell you. Edge managed to amount that obscene number of World Titles in less than four years. This is due to three things: there are two World Championships, thus two World Champs at a time; titles change hands much more frequently than they used to (case in point: Jeff Hardy is a three-time champion and has zero successful PPV title defenses); and Edge’s “Ultimate Opportunist” gimmick.

Edge gears up for ‘Mania
The Canadian grappler was born Adam Copeland, and he’s been nicknamed “The Rated-R Superstar,” “The Ultimate Opportunist” and “The Master Manipulator.”

At Wrestlemania XXVI in Glendale, Ariz., this Sunday, the 36-year-old wrestler hopes to add “World Heavyweight Champion” to the list.

Edge, who recently returned from an injury to his Achilles tendon, is facing his former tag team partner Chris Jericho in a battle for the top title.

amNewYork spoke with Edge about the event, the biggest night in pro wrestling, which airs live on pay-per-view on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Jim Ross had the said the following in a recent interview:

Ross also talked up the Edge vs. Chris Jericho match for Jericho’s World Hvt. Title, predicting it will steal the show and both men will be mentally prepared after serious tape study.
“They have so much in common – the same skill set, both in their prime, and both goal-oriented guys. I’m not surprised that Edge is back (from injury), but I think that match will be phenomenal,” Ross said. “I think they’ll have a great match and it’s another reason to watch the event. Both of them are real students of the game. There will be a lot more thought put into the matches that is more than the general public will perceive.”
