Edge vs Chris Jericho at Extreme Rules PPV

At Extreme Rules, a clear winner will finally be established in the volatile rivalry between two of the most decorated Superstars in WWE, as Chris Jericho battles Edge inside a career-threatening Steel Cage.

“Spear” has become the word of ultimate consequence for Chris Jericho over the past couple of months. Although he overcame The Rated-R Superstar at WrestleMania, his celebration was cut short when his enraged opponent Speared him off the broadcast table. On SmackDown five days later, The Ultimate Opportunist repeated his devastating maneuver. Little did he know the opportunity he was creating was for another Superstar.

After miraculously overcoming nine Superstars in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match at The Show of Shows, Jack Swagger stormed onto Friday night, ready to pick up the pieces of Edge’s assault and turn them into pure glory. After smashing Edge from behind with the Money in the Bank briefcase, Swagger stunned the WWE Universe by cashing it in, capturing his first major World Title from the war-torn Chris Jericho.

In a monumental decision, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long determined that Jericho and Edge would face each other in a WrestleMania rematch on SmackDown to establish which No. 1 Contender would face the new champion. That match ended in a double count-out, with the two Superstars slugging it out into the crowd. Before the GM could decide the next step, Raw Guest Host David Hasslehoff proclaimed that Swagger would instead put the title on the line against Randy Orton at Extreme Rules, apparently leaving both SmackDown Superstars out in the cold.

Long launched a preemptive strike to try and assure the WWE Universe and Superstars that the World Championship would stay on SmackDown, putting Swagger in a Triple Threat Match against both Edge and Jericho. But, moments after “The All-American American” squeaked his way past his challengers, Jericho took things one step further. “The best in the world at what he does” attacked The Rated-R Superstar’s ankle – the same ankle that kept Edge out of action for six months – and brutalized it using the unforgiving steel ring steps.

After SmackDown ended, General Manager Theodore Long declared that the explosive issues between two of the most cunning Superstars in WWE history would be finally be settled inside the Steel Cage Match at Extreme Rules.

Which of the highly-resourceful WWE elite will prevail inside the dreaded steel structure? Find out at Extreme Rules, Sun, April 25, only on pay-per-view.

World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger def. Edge and Chris Jericho
Four days after Raw Guest Host David Hasselhoff announced that World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger will face Randy Orton for the World Title at Extreme Rules, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long attempted to launch a preemptive strike. With both Chris Jericho and Edge claiming that they were the Superstar to keep the coveted title on SmackDown, Long made a pre-Extreme Rules Triple Threat World Championship Match.

In the midst of Triple Threat fury, Jericho looked ready to use Edge’s own finisher against him. But, at the last second, The Rated-R Superstar turned the tables on the “best in the world at what he does,” blasting him with the Spear once again. However, when The Ultimate Opportunist went for the cover, Jack Swagger suddenly yanked him out of the ring and grabbed the huge pin for himself.

Before the smoke could clear on his first title defense, “The All-American American” hit the war torn Edge with a post-match Gutwrentch Powerbomb. Then, as the World Champ made his exit from the ring, Jericho reentered and proceeded to brutalize Edge’s previously injured ankle while it was trapped inside the steel ring steps.

Houseshow Results – April 12, 2010 from Nottingham, England

Jack Swagger made his way to the ring and cut a promo about being the new champ before making an open challenge for the title. Edge’s music hit to a big pop and he made his way to the ring but was attacked quickly from behind by Chris Jericho. They fought on the ramp and stage for a short while before heading backstage.

Edge defeated Chris Jericho in a Street Fight.
Jericho came out first to a good heel reaction with a few people cheering him (us included). He cut a promo ripping into Nottingham and calling us all tosspots, this got a few laughs. Edge’s music hit to a strong pop and he came down to the ring. An interesting situation came up when Edge went to throw his shirt to a child in the crowd but an older fan seemed to get it. Edge shouted towards this fan and motioned for him to give the shirt to the child, which in fairness, the guy did.

Edge tried to get the match started with Jericho playing to the crowd and refusing to wrestle. Edge got the mic and called Jericho a “Bloody Wanker” which got a big laugh and cheer from the crowd. The match itself was a little short but as you’d expect from these guys, on a par with what they did on Smackdown. At one point the fans were chanting for tables but Jericho got on the mic and refused to use one. Edge got the win as he ducked a chair shot and ran off the ropes to hit the spear. Edge shook hands and gave autographs to some of the fans and stayed out for a good 10 minutes with the fans. In a classy moment, he apologized to the guy who initially got his t-shirt and thanked him for giving it to the kid.

Aww, Edge’s so amazing and so sweet for doing that for the kid! :)

April 9-11 Houseshow Results

April 9 from Dublin, Ireland:

Edge defeated Jack Swagger by DQ when Swagger used a steel chair. Swagger cut a promo about warning people not to make fun of his lisp or to chant “Spear” or else security would escort them out of the arena. So Edge went and made fun of his lisp while the fans chanted “Spear”. The finish came when Swagger gave Edge a chairshot to the leg as he was getting out of the ring to chase after the champion. Edge was able to Spear Swagger afterwards and said on the mic that he will have his number eventually. He then told the fans that he has some Irish heritage, was going to mention Guinness but realised it was unsuitable with all the children in the audience and then got each side of the arena to cheer if they had the most fun tonight.

April 10 from Glasgow, Scotland:

Edge beat World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger via DQ. Swagger cut a good promo before the match. Fine match but didn’t really have the main event heat until the last 5 minutes. Swagger worked very well though, mixing in some chain wrestling with power moves and some really good heel selling. Another long match, finish saw Swagger hit Edge in the knee with a chair for the DQ. He went to use the chair again but Edge speared him to send the people home happy. Edge cut a nice promo after the match thanking everyone for coming and promising to win the title from Swagger.

April 11 from Manchester, England:

Jack Swagger beat Chris Jericho and Edge in a three way match with Bret Hart as special enforcer. Swagger spent most of the match outside the ring selling, so it was mainly Edge and Jericho.Good match, ending came when Edge hit the spear on Jericho, then Swagger came in threw Edge out and pinned Jericho. After the match Edge speared Swagger and Bret put the sharpshooter on the All American American. Edge and Hart then did the hitman pose routine around the ring, with Edge looking like he was having the time of his life.
